‘She Doesn’t Run Just As Good As The Day I Got Her;’ Grandpa Lovingly Passes Down Harley-Davidson

The day has come for one local grandfather to pass down his beloved Harley-Davidson to his grandson – continuing the tradition of sacrificing power, reliability, affordability, and technology for the privilege of being able to shop at Harley gift shops.

“Think of a Sportster like a Costco card,” said Gene Powell, life-long Harley-Davidson owner. “It brings little joy on its own, relies on people obsessed with bulk, will forever put additional strain on your wallet, and lets you join a little club. It’s my great joy to finally pass down the privilege of buying almost anything an American mind raised on moonshine can think of… but branded by Harley-Davidson.”

Gene’s grandson, Andy (21), appreciates the gesture but has concerns.

“I live in a studio apartment with three roommates,” said Andy. “It’s nice that my grandfather could spend money on a 600-pound paperweight, but times have changed. I can’t just spend money that I have on toys that make me feel something. Instead, I do what everyone my age does and spend money that I don’t have to make me feel less.”

In the hope that he could at least sell the bike as an antique, Andy went straight to Facebook Marketplace but had no luck.

“It turns out old Harleys look and perform just like today’s Harleys but with a little extra dust,” said Andy. “They also cost the same, for some reason, so it looks like I’ll just hang onto it in case Hipsters come back into style. Until then, I guess I’ll go buy a shot glass with a Harley-Davidson logo on it.”
